Biological warfare is often touted as a great threat to modern society and it truly is. Of course, nature has come up with some pretty nasty stuff without human intervention. West Nile Virus definitely falls into this category.
West Nile Virus is interesting because it is a variation of Encephalitis that actually looks like Dengue Fever. In the vast majority of cases, it has little or no effect on infected people, but it is deadly to a small minority of patients.
How odd is the disease? Well, most people that are infected with it do not even know. There are no symptoms at all and the infection is eradicated naturally by the body within 10 days or so.
While most people get through the infection in 10 days, a minority fall into a near coma with fever, weakness, chills, sweating and general misery. Nausea can follow as well as gastrointestinal issues.
At this point, even the worst cases can break after ten days or so with the patient recovering. Still, a few will never recover. The infection will spread into the spinal cord and brain with death being likely.
